Organizing Your Menu: Categories and Items
Building your digital menu is a two-step process. First, you create the sections (Categories), and then you fill them with your delicious dishes (Items). Here is how to do it efficiently.
Step 1: Create a Category
Before adding food or drinks, you must have at least one category (e.g., "Starters", "Main Courses", or "Drinks").
Navigate to the "Categories" menu in your Dashboard and click "Add Category". Fill in the following details:
- Category Name: The public title for this section.
- Description: A brief detail about this group of items (optional).
- Display Order: Control the sequence. For example, enter "1" for the category you want to appear first. Use "0" for automatic sorting.
Click "Save Category". Now you are ready to add items to this section.
Step 2: Add Menu Items
Once your categories are set, adding items is just as easy. Click on "Add Item" and provide the details:
- Item Name: The name of the dish or drink.
- Price (€): Set your price (the currency is automatically set to Euros).
- Description: Tell your customers more about the ingredients or the preparation.
- Category: Select the specific category where this item belongs.
- Sort Order: Use lower numbers to make this item appear at the top of its category.
Featured Items and Images
You can make specific items stand out by using the Image Upload and Featured settings:
- Image Upload: Upload a photo (Max: 2MB). This image will be displayed for items marked as "Featured" on your restaurant's public Home page.
- Featured Item: When you check this box, the item will appear prominently on your Home page. In the standard menu view, a star icon will appear next to the item name to catch the customer's eye.
- Status: You can toggle an item as "Active" or "Inactive" to hide it temporarily without deleting it.
Pro Tip: Use high-quality photos for your Featured Items. Visually appealing dishes can increase orders by up to 30%!
